Is this the same French grape seed extract as the regular Clinical OPC?
Yes, except that every softgel in Clinical OPC Extra Strength provides 400 mg of VX1 French grape seed extract rather than 150 mg per capsule in our regular-strength version. Clinical OPC Extra Strength allows individuals to experience even greater benefites in fewer doses each day.*
Why is being "tannin-free" so important?
Tannins are a form of proanthocyanidin (another OPC) found in grape seeds, stems, and skin. As a result, they are found in many grape seed extracts. However, they have a high molecular weight (large size), and can't be absorbed. Clinical OPC Extra Strength provides only low-molecular weight OPCs, including a complex mixture of flavanolic monomers (catechin, epicatechin, epicatechin gallate) and flavanolic oligomers (dimers, trimers and tetramers) for higher absorbability.
